help with broad filters

  • Entschuldigung - ich sprech nicht gut Deutsch..... Englisch, bitte.

I am trying MaLa after getting sick of the lack of GUI configuration in MameWah. MaLa seems great so far! Very easy to set up!

    However, here is my question:

I see how to create 4 filters in a filter set. However, what I want is to include multiple genres in a single filter (or filterset). Is this even possible?

e.g. in Mamewah I had a single sports game list filter with all different genres that are sports e.g. baseball, football, track/field, wrestling, etc.

Same with all different genres of fighter in a single gamelist, etc.

I don't see how to select multiple (shift-select? ctrl-select?) in your dropdown.

  • Hi,

you can set up gamelists easly in Mala, but you can`t have games from different Emulators in the same Gamelist.

    Options - Game List

    ;)

  • thanks - i'm not talking about games from different emulators in one gamelist. Genre filters are only for MAME to my knowledge.

I'm talking about a single gamelist with multiple genres filtering together. e.g. 1 gamelist "Fighters" which includes all games that match ANY of the following: Fighter 2.5D, Fighter 2d, Fighter 3d, Fighter Field, etc

  • by manually you mean picking files one at a time through the list editor rather than using Filters? or do you mean manually editing txt files? Given that there's over 5000 roms in the full MAME set, filters are crucial to organizing them.

I guess maybe this thread belongs in the feature wish list then since i think the feature is very useful but apparently not part of MaLa (yet). Both MameWah and the old Mamewah Setup let me do that. without it I may continue my search for a different frontend :(

Does anyone know if Maximus Arcade lets you create complex filters like I need to?

  • I picked my games one by one for each gamelist. I dont know if there is another way but maybe another user can give a hint on this.

I also think that a feature like this would be usefull.

    :) :) :)

  • Hi, maybe you want to try EmuLoader to make your lists. The lists you get are not compatible with Mala, but you can edit them.

    1) Hide all games im Emu Loader you dont want in your list. Depending on your ini.s you can hide Categories, Systems, Years, ...

    2) File/ExportGamelist/VisibleGames(GameNamesOnly) - you get a .txt file like this

open the file with an editor add [LIST] on top, and SEARCH&REPLACE all "=mame" with "". Save the File as XXX.ini

    3) This list can be imported in Malagamelist with GAMELIST/ImportMAME32CustomList.

not the easiest way, but if you get used to EmuLoader you can easily make the lists you want and dont have to choose the games one by one.
