MaLa COnfiguration

  • Hello, pardon my posting in English but we stupid Americans know nothing else.

I have just found and installed MaLa and it is absolutely the best front end I've EVER seen! THANK YOU for your work!

    I do have one question.

I have a home made control panel that uses a GP-Wiz to interface the buttons into Windows. The GP-Wiz supports 28 buttons but the Joystick support for the MaLa interface only supports 12 buttons (as seen in the drop down lists)

Is there any way I can use button numbers above 12?

    Thank you in advance!

Hello, pardon my posting in English but we stupid Americans know nothing else.

    This made me chuckle :D.

If loadman is correct and it doesn't work you could always try Joy2Key. The program emulates defined keyboard keys when you press a joystick button. You could try to configure MaLa to use a keyboard then.

  • Joy2Key is a great idea. I had forgotten about that program.

One other idea that popped into my head is a MaLa plug-in. (I'm a developer.) I have not yet looked at the plug-in architecture yet to see if it would even be possible to hook the input side of things.

Any ideas if this is possible?

  • Keep us posted on what you end up doing. I've also got a GPWiz wired up to a control set with 2 joysticks & 16 buttons (8 per person). Everything works fine as long as I'm in the MaLa front end but as soon as I launch a game, none of my controller works.

I can tab over and launch the exact same game with MAME32 and it works fine so I know it's not the hardware. If it were, I wouldn't be able to scroll through & select a game in MaLa; why would it suddenly stop working when I launch a game?

  • I actually wound up just using Joy2Key. My initial attempt at using it did not work because I had only created a MaLa configuration. Once I created a MAME configuration with nothing mapped for the joystick keys, it all began to work.

Hopefully you can get this to work for you too.
